Sliding Scale

At Extra Yarn, we believe in the power of fiber arts and the connections they foster within communities. We’re committed to creating an inclusive space where individuals of all backgrounds can express themselves through crafting.
What is a sliding scale and why do we use it?

A sliding scale is a flexible pricing model that allows our services to be obtained within a range of price points. We’ve chosen to implement a sliding scale for our classes and services as a deliberate and heartfelt decision. Here's why:
  1. Inclusivity: We believe that everyone should have access to learning and creating through fiber arts. By offering a sliding scale, we aim to make our classes accessible to a wider range of individuals, regardless of their economic circumstances.

  2. Respect for Individual Circumstances: We understand that each person's financial situation is unique. Our sliding scale empowers individuals to assess their ability to pay and choose a price point that feels comfortable and fair to them.

  3. Fostering Community: By embracing a sliding scale, we’re nurturing a sense of belonging and solidarity within our community. Our studio welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds and ensures that everyone feels valued and respected.
How does our sliding scale work?
Our sliding scale operates on an honor system because community thrives when truthfulness and accountability are central values. We trust that each person will select a price point that aligns with their financial situation and feels right for them.
  • The highest cost: SUPPORTING
    • Select the SUPPORTING option at checkout.
    • At this level, you are supporting the entire Extra Yarn community. If you're in a position of financial security, where paying for "wants" doesn't impact your ability to meet your needs, this is the price point for you. Your support enables us to continue the meaningful work we do.
  • The median cost: SUSTAINING
    • Select the SUSTAIN option at checkout.
    • For those who would feel the pinch paying the highest price and are striving to achieve financial stability, this level is designed with you in mind. If you can cover your basic needs but are working towards greater security, this price option offers a balance that respects your journey. You are sustaining Extra Yarn and all that we do.
  • The lower cost: SUPPORTED
    • Select the SUPPORT option at checkout.
    • This level is a deliberate invitation for those facing financial challenges that would prevent them from joining our classes. If you're navigating the delicate balance of meeting needs like healthcare, housing, and childcare while living paycheck to paycheck or managing significant debt, this is your space. Here, your presence is valued just as much as those who can afford the highest cost. We honor and embrace the economic diversity within our community.
  • Scholarships
    • If you need further support, please reach out to us to learn more about our scholarships.

We encourage those who are able to pay at the higher end of the scale to do so, as it helps support the sustainability of our studio and enables us to continue offering affordable options for those who need them.
